As part of the Fit For Life scheme the Y10 GCSE Food group spent the whole day with two members of the Royal Navy. Petty Officer Skally Smith and Steward Del Trotter fully engaged the students teaching them – through food – about healthy diets, team building, survival techniques and life in the Navy.

They started the day with a session on preparing food under pressure. In teams students were given set ingredients and instructed to research, plan and prepare at least three breakfast dishes. The fantastic end results included scrambled egg with smoked salmon, stacked pancakes with fresh fruit coulis, cheese and ham bagels with homemade tomato sauce, and a variety of smoothies. Mr Deeble and the students were delighted with the day and thanks also to Mr Diekmann for fostering a great link with the armed forces.
