For a number of months a group of students from Year 10 have been training to become Peer Supporters. These students, who voluntered, but also went through a vigorous selection process, have been coached in the skills needed to support other students who might from time to time need a helping hand. Difficulties can range from friendship problems to coping with school work and the skills and qualities of effective listening and understanding are crucial. In presenting the awards Mr Uttley paid tribute to Cathy Johnson (pictured, right) who has led the programme and has run this training succesfully in other schools for a number of years. In presenting the badges of office to the newly commissioned Peer Supporters, who he described as 'ambassadors for the ethos of the school', Mr Uttley confessed that the he was most impressed with their achievement and doubted he would have had their skills at their age.
