How to get a great grade in the Judaism section of your GCSE next year!

A great way to improve your subject knowledge for the Judaism section of the paper next year would be to make a project on a couple of aspects of Judaism over the summer. This can be done in the following ways:

• You could create a booklet using coloured paper.
• Perhaps make your own Youtube video on some aspects of Judaism.
• Compose a song or rap on one subject in Judaism.
• Create a power point on topics of Judaism that you really struggle with.

However, you can create your Judaism project anyway you like – there are no rules.

These are the areas you need to cover (you can choose which ones you would like to pick for your project):

• The 4 qualities of God (the nature of God) – One, Judge, Law-giver, Creator
• The Shekhinah – What is it, where is it found, how do Jews understand the Shekhinah today?
• The Messiah – Who is the Messiah for the JEWS, what do the Orthodox Jews believe about Him, what do the Liberal Jews believe about Him. What is the Messianic Age?
• What is the covenant at Sinai? – Who was given the Ten Commandments and where was it given? What are the Ten Commandments and how do they affect Jews today?
• What is the Abrahamic Covenant and how does it affect Jews today?
• The importance of life for Jews (sanctity of life) and the principle of pikuach nefesh.
• The importance of mitzvot for developing relationships between Jews and God and Jews and other Jews.
• Jewish beliefs about life after death.
• What can be found in a synagogue?
• Is it better to pray in a synagogue or in private?
• The Tenakh and Talmud. Why are they important for Jews?
• Kosher Laws – why are they important for Jews and how does it affect their lives?
• What are the Shema and the Amidah? What are the differences between them? Why are they so important for the Jews?
• Rituals and ceremonies – birth, bar and bat mitzvahs, marriage, death.
• Shabbat – What happens on the Shabbat and why do Jews keep the Shabbat? Why is it important?
• The Jewish festivals of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Pesach, Shavuot.

Make your project as interesting as possible and try to enjoy making something creative. Only take a few topics from the list above to make a project that you can really take pride in.

Use the internet, Youtube, a visit to the Jewish Museum to help you find out interesting facts on Judaism.
