House System

SJBC House System

At St John Bosco College, our vibrant House system fosters a sense of community, belonging, and healthy competition across the school. Every student and staff member belongs to one of five Houses, creating supportive sub-communities that connect people across year groups and departments.

Since its introduction in 2016 as a student-led initiative from the School Council, the House system has evolved to include a vertical tutoring structure. Students are placed in mixed-age form groups of around 20, bringing together younger and older peers in a dynamic and collaborative environment. This approach encourages stronger relationships, provides opportunities for leadership, and fosters thoughtful discussions, all while reflecting our ethos of care and community.

The House system remains central to school life, with weekly competitions celebrating achievement, effort, behaviour, and attendance. Beyond these, a variety of events—ranging from sports to subject-based challenges—are organised by different school departments, further enriching the student experience.

Rooted in our Catholic ethos, each House is named after a patron saint chosen by the school community through a vote led by the School Council. In House assemblies, students explore the inspiring lives of these saints, drawing valuable lessons from their examples.

Together, the SJBC House system and vertical tutoring structure strengthen connections, foster leadership, and support our shared mission to celebrate diversity and nurture every individual in our small school community.
